family1's bbq on sunday. oh and im finally puting up photos. well, a picture paints a thousand words. anws, look at that scene. how nice. well, i din manage to take photos of us playing soccer and hand ball and also the catching game. but well, i manage to capture these. =D anws, i went to meet the og members at ard 2 at clementi macs that day. then ate our lunch, then pool. and then wanqing wanted to eat her paddlepop icecream. so we went ard clementi central to find that. but we failed. then we met up with theresa who had just attended her relationship workshop. cabbed to west coast park cos we were 'late'. they asked us to go after 3pm . not before any time. so i couldn't see why were we late and had to take a cab. =/ oh well, reached there. first thing we did was to pay up. how efficient our ogls are. =) then we slacked, ate twisties and a few bbqed stuff, then we went to play catching. wasn't fun. the area was too big, no excitement la. then changed to soccer and handball, cos wanqing was not proficient in her legs. =/ then, we went to the pyramid where i met these young 'punks' the sand in my shoe fell on their heads and they jus came up for vengence. then talked to them nicely and saved that young punk's life, cos he almost fell off that pyramid. from the top. then the interesting part comes in. the girlfriend of the young punk. omg. she sat nex to me. and i was lik, what are u trying to do. then i edged away from her, when she came nearer and nearer. then she started smoking.=/ what else can they do to express the fact that they are punks? besides smoking? and hurling vulgarities at each other. okay, i gtg soon. anws tys and gang came and we had fun real fun. watching soccer at macs. then went to take photos, see raied's blog. =) alright, i gtg alr. blog tmr. nights.

where are our REAL roots?
Tuesday, March 13, 2007 @ 10:01 pm
question: what do you think of when we speak of Japan's culture?
answer: anime, kimono, samurais, ninjas and even sushi. (tell me if there's more).
that's wad most ppl would say.
now, another question: what do you think of when we speak of Singapore's culture? that's a tough question. but there are still some answers after some rigorous brainstorming session.
eg: singlish, katong laksa, lion city, fine city, durians. that's NOT culture. so, this leads to the burning question in my head. DOES SINGAPORE HAVE A CULTURE OR A NATIONAL IDENTITY? comeon, singlish isn't something that we singaporeans should be proud of. neither is fine city. And durians and laksa don even originate from singapore! so, with all the fuss over letting young singaporeans learn their own roots through national education, what we actually learn is the living conditions of our forefathers and how our GOVERNMENT changed their lives and living conditions to what we have today. learning social studies in our primary and secondary education is also part of the feedstock of 'national education' we have. perhaps it's due to the fact that we are a young nation and that's why we don have a national identity we can call our own. our forefathers came from china, some indians came from india while the malays, being the native ppl of SEA might not be from singapore too. so what sort of identity can we have. and now with those strong Kpop, Jpop, american craze in singapore, we actually start to adopt their lifestyles and way of speech. look at america, they got their independence on july 4th 1776. it's been only 231 years, and look at their culture, namely hollywood. it's spread all over the world. even asia, we get influenced by their culture. why do ppl watch the oscars award presentation while no one gives a damn about our local presentation. it's about the same thing, recognising the good productions. but there's so much diff in the response to it. so how is singapore's govt going to make singapore's youth to understand our own roots when we are not sure what our roots are. or whether we have any roots. or are we just a bunch of ppl living under the name of singapore but in our hearts, we belong somewhere. i have many peers whom want to 'move to a better place' like australia and canada. i believe, that as long as the majority of ppl in singapore have that thought, our policy of national education is a flop. the main aim of NE is to make ppl love singapore and to instill a sense of patriotism in us. and i personally feel that really, singapore is where im born, and all i have is here. so i hope whoever is reading this text, digest it well, and think about what culture you adopt, is it the korean culture? or the japanese culture? or our very own, Singapore culture?

and they say, IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD!
@ 9:25 pm
i really don know how to start this entry. but i guess it's noticable that there are many earthquakes and natural disasters happening ard the world. and some Christians might believe that the end of the world is coming. as i'm typing this, i can hear the news of heilongjiang having snow storms at this time of the year. and my mum is asking my dad. how come now have snow. my dad just said that tt's the ozone layer being depleted and u know the consequences that comes along with it. so, one might want to think. is it the coming of God that is causing these disasters that befalls our world. or is it just the evil fruits of our own seeds we planted. i cant say we didn't care about the pollution that's existent in this world. but it's like, no one does anything about it. take the haze for example, we all blame the indo farmers for starting it. yes, they are the scapegoat. but how many of us, students are willing to play their part to reduce the existing pollution levels in this world we are in now?and really, whether it's God's will, or our own doing that's causing these disasters now, let's just do sth about it. instead of using our mouths to work. we can all just reduce our plastic bags usage. conserve electricity, water and gas. it's not hard. if everyone in this world uses one less min of the air con. that'll save donno how many tonnes of oil. The Earth is dying, save her before we all perish along with her. =/
